Room to read. Space to grow.
A gentle reading ritual, built around encouragement and curiosity.
A friend, a story, and a little time together.
Read with Pip is designed for children in grades 1–3. Help your child choose a buddy and a story, then settle in together. Let them read at their own pace, or take turns. Reading levels are starting points for choosing stories, not assessments of your child.
What works today
This is the Phase 1 foundation: three original buddies, five original stories, reading-level filters, and adjustable story text. Your child’s buddy choice is saved in this browser when storage is available.
Read-aloud tracking, spoken word help, celebrations, and saved story completions are planned for Phases 2 and 3. The app does not request microphone access yet.
A small data footprint
No accounts, child names, birthdays, or email addresses. No ads, analytics trackers, public profiles, or social features. No recordings are made or stored.
The buddy preference lives in localStorage on this device. Clearing this site’s browser data removes it. Private browsing or blocked storage can prevent it from being remembered. A hosting provider may keep ordinary web request logs.
About future microphone use
The planned read-aloud feature will use browser speech recognition only after a reader explicitly starts it. Support varies by browser, and some browsers may send speech to their provider’s services for processing. Audio does not necessarily stay on the device.
We won’t send audio to our own server or save voice recordings. Manual reading will remain available. Recognition will be an approximate reading aid, never a score or diagnosis.
Encouragement comes first
Buddies use friendly, predefined messages. They don’t have open-ended AI conversations. There are no grades, leaderboards, or competitive rewards.
This prototype has not undergone a formal privacy, accessibility, or COPPA compliance review. A review of the full experience and hosting setup is needed before a wider launch.
